Private Relations 25th Anniversary Edition edition by Diane Chamberlain Literature Fiction eBooks
This is yet another of those love stories featuring two characters who are "made for one another" and yet seem to be unable to get together for hundreds and hundreds of pages. Kit is a PR chief for a hospital in New Jersey on the coast. Cole is an obstetrician trying to get an innovative new surgical technique going. They both live in the Chapel House, a rambling mansion overlooking the ocean, with a few other characters who are not very much developed in the book. The house itself is a character - it has a kind of magical quality, or so we're told. All those who live there find comfort and fellowship and can heal from whatever physical or psychic wounds they have.
Cole is engaged to the nasty Estelle who one instantly knows is a no-goodnik. Everyone in the book also realizes this - except Cole. Kit is attractive and capable of running a marathon in two and a half hours (so my hat's off to her!). Well, a lot of stuff has to happen before these two can finally get together. Some of it is interesting, some not. In general, the book is maybe 75 pages too long. The characters are rather one-dimensional and the expected climax comes as a relief rather than offering a sense of completion. There is a chapter appended at the end bringing the characters up to date. It doesn't add much except more pages.

Private Relations 25th Anniversary Edition edition by Diane Chamberlain Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I really like diane chamberlain books- they are all similar though... probably why i know i will like them when i purchase them! This book was touching and as a woman who just had a baby I was able to connect with the character in this book more than i expected.
I loved this 25th anniversary version of Private Relations. Obviously, medicine is now more advanced than at the time of original publication but it does not cancel the warmth and love of those who live in Chapel House. Bravo, Diane, for this Anniversary Edition!
I love the way Diane Chamberlain writes - most of the time. I did not like this book. She focused on immoral, self-centered, unethical people. That is ok in a novel, but they shouldn't be made to look like this is normal or acceptable behavior, and that is exactly what she did. I won't be reading another of her novels for a while, until the foul taste of this one is but a slight memory.
I did like this book. A little harder in the beginning to get into. After a few chapters it became more interesting. I don't think the writer established her characters back grounds well enough in the beginning of the book.
After meeting the author a week or so ago I was interested in reading a few of her books. I'm sorry I started with this one because it was really not a good read. It was much too long with way too many things going on that just weren't necessary to the story. I will try one of her more recent books hoping that they got better. They must have, right, if she's written so many? There's certainly no doubt this was a first novel. It was a disappointing place to start; I can only hope they get better.
This is my all-time favorite romance! I was in the U.S. Navy when I found it overseas as a paperback and devoured it. Moving around so much, I thought I lost it so bought another paperback copy. Got it autographed by the author, which I cherish to this day. When I saw it was on , I immediately ordered it to find that she had added an epilogue. How genius and epic is that?! I always wondered what happened to everyone and now I know. This has made a perfect romance even more perfect! Thank you, Diane Chamberlain! You rock!
Although I am not a big fan of romance novels, I always enjoy Diane Chamberlain. This is the story of five young adults who share a magnificent house on a barrier island in New Jersey. I call the story an adult fairytale because life at Chapel House is too good to be true. It is unrealistic to imagine a married couple, two physicians, an architect and a public relations specialist wedded to a gigantic house, filled with huge rooms and treasures. This is communal living at its finest, with five people joined at the hip! No arguments about whose food belongs to whom, household chores or yard work at Chapel House; in fact, no disagreements to speak of.
Ah, but covert lovers spice up the story. Cole, an obstetrician in charge of groundbreaking in vitro surgery and Kit, a public relations specialist at the same hospital, have an instant attraction after Kit moves to Chapel House. All the residents see that they are in love, but, although they are confidants and best friends, they dilly-dally around until the last few chapters.
I see why Diane Chamberlain won an award for her debut novel. She is a good writer. Her words preceding the story fascinated me. From social worker to prolific bestsellers she went. For wannabe writers like me, her personal story was inspiring. She has garnered a huge following, and I am sure that I am not her only fan who normally does not read this genre. Kudos to Diane Chamberlain for a successful twenty-five years!
